How is Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 different from Enterprise LTSC 2024?
Technically, IoT Enterprise is the same Windows as Enterprise: Microsoft describes it as binary equivalent. The difference is the licence. IoT Enterprise is licensed for fixed-purpose devices, such as ATMs, kiosks, point-of-sale terminals, thin clients, medical devices and digital signage, with its own allowances and restrictions.
| IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 | Enterprise LTSC 2024 | |
|---|---|---|
| Intended use | Dedicated, fixed-purpose devices | Special-purpose PCs in an organisation |
| Security updates until | 10 October 2034 | 9 October 2029 |
| Feature updates | None (static feature set) | None (static feature set) |
| Same Windows code as Enterprise | Yes (binary equivalent) | Yes |
| Hardware minimums | Flexible options for specialised devices (TPM and Secure Boot optional) | Standard Windows 11 requirements |
The main practical gain is time. IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 gets security updates until 10 October 2034, about ten years in total, while Enterprise LTSC 2024 is supported until 9 October 2029.
How do I use this licence on 5 PCs?
This listing licenses Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 on 5 PCs. You activate each computer with the key details from your order email, one PC at a time, until all 5 are covered. If the email gives a separate key for each PC, use each key on one PC only.
Keep a simple list of which PC used which activation. A common issue we see is a pack used on more machines than it covers: once all 5 activations are used, the next PC will fail to activate. A 5-PC pack suits a small office or a team that sets up its machines together.
How long is Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 supported?
Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 gets security updates until 10 October 2034. Microsoft doesn't publish feature updates for IoT Enterprise LTSC through Windows Update, and moving to a later IoT Enterprise LTSC version requires a new licence.
You can check the dates on Microsoft's lifecycle page for Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024.
What hardware does Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 need?
Microsoft publishes two sets of minimums for Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC: preferred minimums that match a normal Windows 11 PC, and optional minimums for specialised, appliance-like devices. The optional level allows 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, BIOS firmware and no TPM. Device makers must check that such a setup works for the device's whole life.
| Component | Preferred minimum | Optional minimum (specialised devices) |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | 1 GHz, 2 cores | 1 GHz, 2 cores |
| Memory (RAM) | 4 GB | 2 GB |
| Storage | 64 GB (SSD) | 16 GB (SSD, HDD or flash) |
| Firmware | UEFI | BIOS |
| TPM | TPM 2.0 | Optional |
| Secure Boot | Enabled | Optional |
| Graphics | DirectX 12 | DirectX 10 or none |
| Display | 9" diagonal, 720p | Custom size or none |

How do I activate Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024?
LTSC is installed from its own installation media with a clean install. You can't turn an existing Home or Pro installation into LTSC by entering a key, so back up your files before you start.
- Download the installation media from the link in your order email and create a bootable USB drive.
- Start the PC from the USB drive and choose a custom (clean) installation.
- Enter the 25-character key when setup asks for it, or skip that step and add it afterwards.
- After setup, open Settings → System → Activation and select Change product key if the key isn't applied yet.
- Check that Activation says Windows is activated.
- Repeat the installation and activation on each PC, up to 5 in total.
Admins can also activate from an elevated Command Prompt with slmgr /ipk YOUR-PRODUCT-KEY followed by slmgr /ato, which makes larger rollouts easy to script.
A common issue we see is an IoT Enterprise LTSC key entered on a normal Home or Pro installation. It won't activate there: install from the media in your download link first, then activate.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the same key on all 5 PCs?
Follow your order email. If it gives one key for 5 activations, enter that key on each PC until all 5 are used. If it lists separate keys, use one key per PC. Either way, the licence covers 5 PCs in total.
Can I use IoT Enterprise LTSC on a normal desktop PC?
It will install and run, but the licence is meant for fixed-purpose devices such as kiosks, point-of-sale terminals or machine controllers. For an everyday office or home PC, Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise is the licence designed for that use.
How long does Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 get security updates?
Until 10 October 2034. That is about ten years after its release in October 2024. During that time it receives security fixes but no new features, which is what most device makers want for equipment that stays in the field for years.
Does Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC need TPM 2.0?
TPM 2.0 is the preferred minimum, but Microsoft lists it as optional for specialised, appliance-like devices, along with Secure Boot. If the device runs software that relies on the TPM, such as BitLocker with TPM protection, keep TPM 2.0 enabled.
