What can you do with Visio Professional 2024?
Visio turns processes and systems into clear, professional diagrams. You drag shapes from stencils onto the page, and connectors stay attached when you move things around, so reorganising a large flowchart takes seconds.
The Professional edition adds technical templates such as UML, BPMN and database diagrams, and can link shapes to data so that values and colours update from sources like Excel. Diagrams export to PDF, PNG or SVG for sharing.

Visio Plan 1 works only in a web browser and has no desktop app. If you want the desktop app without a subscription, Visio Professional is the edition that covers the most ground.
What are the system requirements for Visio Professional 2024?
Visio Professional 2024 needs a Windows 11 PC with a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 4 GB of free disk space. Microsoft lists the same minimums for the whole Office 2024 family, including Visio and Project. There's no Mac version of Visio.

How long will Visio Professional 2024 get security updates?
Microsoft supports Visio Professional 2024 until 9 October 2029. Until then it receives security and quality updates through Microsoft Update, but no new features.
Microsoft doesn't offer extended support for the 2024 release, so 9 October 2029 is the final date for fixes. After that, the app keeps working without further updates.
How do I install and activate Visio Professional 2024?
Redeem the key to your Microsoft account first, then install Visio from that account. The instructions in your order email walk you through it; in most cases the steps are:
- Go to
microsoft365.com/setupand sign in with your personal Microsoft account (or create one). - Enter the 25-character key from your email to add Visio Professional 2024 to that account.
- Open
account.microsoft.com/services(“Services & subscriptions”) and select Install. - Run the installer, open Visio and sign in with the same account if asked.
- Check File → Account: it should show “Product Activated”.
A common problem we see is setup stopping because of other Office software on the PC. Visio can be installed next to Office, including Microsoft 365 Apps, but both must use Click-to-Run and the same 32-bit or 64-bit edition. Remove older MSI-based installs, such as Office 2016 or Visio 2016, before you start.
What does “MS account global” mean for this key?
It means this Retail key is redeemed to your Microsoft account and is sold as a global version rather than for one country's store. Redeeming is a one-time step; after that you install by signing in, as Microsoft explains in its guide to redeeming a product key.
That makes reinstalling simple after a Windows reset or when you replace your computer: sign in to Services & subscriptions and select Install again. The licence covers one PC at a time, so uninstall Visio from the old computer first.
Use one personal Microsoft account and keep its sign-in details safe. If you redeem the key with a throwaway address or a work account, the licence can be hard to find later.

Does Visio Professional 2024 work on a Mac?
No. The Visio desktop app is Windows-only. On a Mac you can run Windows in a virtual machine with its own licence, or use Visio in a web browser, which comes with some Microsoft 365 business plans and Visio subscriptions.
Will Visio Professional 2024 get new features?
No. Visio Professional 2024 is a fixed release: Microsoft provides security and quality updates until 9 October 2029 but doesn't add new features. If you want new features as soon as they're released, a subscription such as Visio Plan 2 is the alternative.
