Which apps are included in Office 2024 Standard?
Office 2024 Standard includes five desktop apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. It doesn't include Access, which is only in Professional Plus. Microsoft also left Publisher out of every Office 2024 edition because it is retiring the app, and Teams is a separate free download rather than part of the suite.
| App | What you use it for |
|---|---|
| Word | Documents, letters, reports and CVs |
| Excel | Spreadsheets, budgets, formulas and charts |
| PowerPoint | Presentations and slide decks |
| Outlook | Email, calendar and contacts |
| OneNote | Notes, notebooks and to-do lists |
What's the difference between Office 2024 Standard and Professional Plus?
The only app difference is Access: Professional Plus includes it and Standard doesn't. If you never build or open Access databases, Standard already gives you every other app. Neither Office 2024 edition includes Publisher.
| Office 2024 Standard | Office 2024 Professional Plus | |
|---|---|---|
| Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote | Included | Included |
| Publisher | Not included in Office 2024 | Not included in Office 2024 |
| Access | Not included | Included |
| Runs on | Windows PC | Windows PC |
| Payment | One-time purchase | One-time purchase |
A question we often get is whether Standard can open Access files. It can't: .accdb databases need Access, which only Professional Plus includes.
How does the 5-50 PC volume licence work?
This volume option lets you license between 5 and 50 computers in one order. You choose the number of PCs when you order, and the email you receive after payment contains your licence key and step-by-step instructions for that number of computers.
Every covered PC runs the same edition, Office 2024 Standard, which keeps setup and support consistent across an office. Volume editions can be activated inside an Office app or from the command line, which saves time when IT staff set up many PCs.
How long will Office 2024 get security updates?
Microsoft supports Office 2024 until 9 October 2029. It follows Microsoft's Fixed Lifecycle Policy: five years of mainstream support with security updates, and no extended support after that. During that time it gets security fixes, but no new features.
What are the system requirements for Office 2024 Standard?
You need a PC running Windows 11 (or Windows 10 LTSC 2021/2019) with a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and about 4 GB of free disk space. Regular Windows 10 Home and Pro aren't on Microsoft's supported list for Office 2024. Office 2024 Standard doesn't run on macOS; Mac users need a Mac edition of Office.
| Component | Minimum requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 11, Windows 10 LTSC 2021 or 2019, Windows Server 2025 or 2022 |
| Processor | 1.1 GHz or faster, 2 cores |
| Memory (RAM) | 4 GB |
| Storage | 4 GB of free disk space |
| Display | 1280 × 768 resolution |
| Internet | Needed for installation and activation |

How do I install and activate Office 2024 Standard?
On each computer, install Office from the link in your order email and activate it with your licence key. For a few PCs, enter the key in Word; for many, IT staff can activate from the command line.
- On each PC, uninstall older Office or Microsoft 365 versions from Settings → Apps.
- Install Office 2024 Standard using the download link in your order email.
- Open Word and enter the key when asked, or go to File → Account → Change Product Key.
- To activate from the command line instead, open Command Prompt as administrator and run
cscript "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16\ospp.vbs" /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX, then the same command with/act(use "Program Files (x86)" for 32-bit Office). - Confirm activation with
ospp.vbs /dstatusor under File → Account.
The most common problem we see is a different Office edition already on the PC, such as a preinstalled Microsoft 365 or Home & Business copy. Your key only activates Office 2024 Standard, so remove other editions and install the one from your order email.
Frequently asked questions
How many PCs does this licence cover?
It covers the number of PCs you choose when you order, anywhere from 5 to 50. Each of those computers can run Office 2024 Standard. If you later need Office on more PCs than you licensed, you need an additional licence for the extra computers.
Do all the PCs have to run the same edition?
Yes. Your key activates Office 2024 Standard only, so every computer covered by the licence needs that same edition installed. A Standard key won't activate Professional Plus, and a Professional Plus key won't activate Standard.
Does Office 2024 Standard include Access?
No. Access is only included in Office 2024 Professional Plus. Standard gives you Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote. If you need to create or open Access databases (.accdb files), choose Professional Plus instead.
Is Office 2024 Standard a one-time purchase?
Yes. You pay once and can keep using the apps with no subscription. Microsoft provides security updates for Office 2024 until 9 October 2029. After that, the apps keep working, but they no longer get new fixes.
For fewer than five PCs, see the single keys and packs in our Office 2024 range, or equip new PCs with a Windows + Office bundle.
