What can you do with Project Professional 2024?
Project builds a schedule from your task list: you set durations and dependencies, and it calculates the dates and draws the Gantt chart. When one task slips, every dependent task moves with it, so you always see the real finish date.
You assign people and costs to tasks, save a baseline, and compare actual progress against the plan. Built-in reports show workload, cost and progress, and the Timeline view gives managers a summary at a glance.

What's the difference between Project Professional and Project Standard?

If you'd rather pay monthly, Microsoft's subscription route is Planner and Project Plan 3, which includes the Project desktop app. Microsoft retired its Project Online service on 30 September 2026, so a server connection now means an on-premises Project Server.
What are the system requirements for Project Professional 2024?
Project Professional 2024 needs a Windows 11 PC with a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 4 GB of free disk space. Microsoft lists the same minimums for the whole Office 2024 family, including Visio and Project. There's no Mac version of Project.

How long will Project Professional 2024 get security updates?
Microsoft supports Project Professional 2024 until 9 October 2029. Until then it receives security and quality updates through Microsoft Update, but no new features.
Microsoft doesn't offer extended support for the 2024 release, so 9 October 2029 is the final date for fixes. After that, the app keeps working without further updates.
How do I install and activate Project Professional 2024?
Redeem the key to your Microsoft account first, then install Project from that account. The instructions in your order email walk you through it; in most cases the steps are:

microsoft365.com/setupand sign in with your personal Microsoft account (or create one). - Enter the 25-character key from your email to add Project Professional 2024 to that account.
- Open
account.microsoft.com/services(“Services & subscriptions”) and select Install. - Run the installer, open Project and sign in with the same account if asked.
- Check File → Account: it should show “Product Activated”.
A common problem we see is setup stopping because of other Office software on the PC. Project can be installed next to Office, including Microsoft 365 Apps, but both must use Click-to-Run and the same 32-bit or 64-bit edition. Remove older MSI-based installs, such as Office 2016 or Project 2016, before you start.
What does “MS account global” mean for this key?
It means this Retail key is redeemed to your Microsoft account and is sold as a global version rather than for one country's store. Redeeming is a one-time step; after that you install by signing in, as Microsoft explains in its guide to redeeming a product key.
That makes reinstalling simple after a Windows reset or when you replace your computer: sign in to Services & subscriptions and select Install again. The licence covers one PC at a time, so uninstall Project from the old computer first.
Use one personal Microsoft account and keep its sign-in details safe. If you redeem the key with a throwaway address or a work account, the licence can be hard to find later.

Yes. Export the plan as a PDF through File → Export, or save it as an Excel workbook, and copy the Timeline into an email or PowerPoint slide. People can read those files without having Project installed.

No. Project Professional 2024 is a fixed release: Microsoft provides security and quality updates until 9 October 2029 but doesn't add new features. If you want new features as soon as they're released, a subscription such as Planner and Project Plan 3 is the alternative.
